About this event

By nature, adult literacy classes are multi-level, since adult learners come from all walks of life, are of all ages and ranges of educational experience, and bring to the table an array of academic skills. Unlike children who all graduate from one grade to the next within a predictable range of skill sets and knowledges bases, adult learners may have been away from school settings for years or decades, have had their formal educations interrupted at very different stages, have amassed disparate life skills as they've worked a variety of jobs, and have such challenges as difficult work schedules, children or elderly relatives to care for, and unidentified cognitive learning challenges. This workshop will offer strategies and approaches to structuring lessons, instructional routines, staggered activities, and project-based learning ideas that will enable instructors to adequately address a variety of learning needs.
